Protect our Forests with the REPLANT Act
The United States is entering into another wildfire season, and already fires are raging on the West Coast. Increased wildfires are directly connected to rising temperatures from climate change, and the effects of these damaged ecosystems are widespread. The Chicago region is seeing hazy skies and unusually colorful sunsets due to the smoke spreading from the 80 large wildfires raging in 13 states, including California, Oregon, and Idaho.
Healthy forest ecosystems are critical to the health of our communities and environment, as trees sequester carbon, clean the air, provide food and shelter for wildlife, prevent erosion, and much, much more. The more damage is caused to forests, the harder it will be to recover these important ecosystems.
The REPLANT Act would restore damaged forests by providing the U.S. Forest Service with the resources necessary to plant and regenerate 1.2 billion trees over the next decade. Passing this legislation would create over 49,000 green jobs and make our nation more resilient to the effects of climate change.
We need your help to contact your Member of Congress today and tell them to protect our forests by supporting the REPLANT Act.
