Transform Schoolyards into Healthy, Green Spaces
Across the country, millions of children attend schools surrounded by asphalt and heat instead of trees, shade, and nature. Congress has a timely opportunity to change that by investing in green, climate-resilient schoolyards that support student health, learning, and community well-being.
Why This Matters
Nearly 50 million students attend public schools nationwide, many on campuses with little access to safe, shaded outdoor space. The Revitalizing America’s Schoolyards Act would create a federal grant program to help schools transform paved schoolyards into green, nature-rich spaces with trees, gardens, outdoor classrooms, and play areas.
Green schoolyards improve students’ physical and mental health, support hands-on learning, reduce extreme heat, manage stormwater, and provide safe outdoor spaces that can be shared with the community after school hours. The bill prioritizes investments in under-resourced communities, helping advance equity while strengthening local resilience to climate impacts.
What You Can Do
Tell Congress to support the Revitalizing America’s Schoolyards Act and invest in healthier, greener school environments for students and communities nationwide.
Take action today and send a message to your U.S. Senators and Member of Congress.
