We need your support to pass House Bill 5119 and Senate Bill 3005 to clarify that citizens have standing to take legal action to stop certain kinds of bad State agency decisions, such as flawed mining permits, that damage our state’s finest natural areas.
In 2015, an Illinois Appellate Court decided that citizens could not challenge an administrative decision by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to issue a permit to mine frac sand next to Starved Rock State Park. To prevent courts from perpetuating that mistake, please take a minute to tell your legislators to pass this bill so there is no question that affected citizens can hold agencies accountable for their decisions, and to protect our region’s natural heritage.
Please take a moment to contact your representatives in the Illinois House and Illinois Senate asking them support this proposal.
